It’s funny how we both say the first thing we noticed about the other was “your smile, your eyes.”

At the time, there was plenty of opportunity for smiling, and lots of laughing. We were two of a dozen or more rowdy, bus-riding college students, armed with fledgling U-Passes in the back of Metro’s Route 372.

Every morning we rode to UW for class, and the trip between Woodinville and Bothell to the University of Washington lasted about 50 minutes each way, plenty of time – in this big group of bus friends – to get to know each other.

It was a time in our lives when there wasn’t a lot of time to spare between studies and part-time work to pay for tuition and books.

It wasn’t too long before we were rollerblading in Red Square, dancing at The Underground, watching movies at friends’ houses as our #Metromance bloomed. Fast-forward and the 372 is still running strong, and I often wonder if students look up from their phones long enough for sparks to fly like they did for us.

This spring marks 25 years together and 20 years married, with two fast-growing sons who often roll their eyes audibly at hearing again about how mom and dad met on the bus.
