King County Metro and Sound Transit are recruiting for the East Link Connections Mobility Board, which is a co-led process for improving transit connections throughout the Eastside as Link light rail service expands through 2024.
By 2024, Sound Transit will open 12 new light rail stations connecting downtown Seattle and the Eastside. More information about the East Link and Downtown Redmond Link extensions is available on the Sound Transit website.
Like other recent efforts to redesign transit service, the East Link Connections effort responds to changing mobility needs and works to improve mobility and access for historically underserved populations. The project will deliver an updated mobility network that integrates with and complements Sound Transit’s new Link light rail service when it opens on the Eastside. Several Eastside communities and Seattle neighborhoods will be the focus of the work in the months ahead, including Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Woodinville, and Seattle’s Chinatown/International District.

This is a compensated volunteer leadership opportunity. Are you someone who:
- Lives, works, and/or travels within Eastside communities? These communities include but are not limited to areas east and south of Kenmore, east of the I-90 and SR 520 bridges, north of east Renton (such as Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond), and west of Sammamish and Issaquah? Or do you live, work, or travel in Seattle’s Chinatown/International District and/or Judkins Park?
- Is a transit rider or a potential transit rider?
- Are able to bring your perspective as an individual, not representing the interests of an organization?
- Are willing and interested in drawing connections between racial equity, transportation issues, and access to opportunities?
Metro and Sound Transit aim to convene a Mobility Board that equitably represents groups of people who have historically been left out of decision-making conversations related to transit and who are disproportionately affected by these decisions. We are strongly encouraging people with the following identities and lived experiences to apply: Black, Indigenous, and people of color; immigrants and refugees; linguistically diverse; low-income or no-income; and people with disabilities.
Mobility Board members will be compensated $50 per hour for their work in meetings/workshops and engagement conducted in the community. The Mobility Board will gather virtually 2 to 4 hours per month from April 2021 through November 2021.
