Metro revises policy to allow only commercial and government advertising

King County Metro allows advertising to raise revenue for transit service. On Feb. 9, 2021, Metro posted an update to the policy that governs the advertising allowed.

As revised, the advertising policy now only allows commercial advertising (ads that promote the sale of goods and services) and government advertising.

Our advertising policy continues to prohibit political, public issue, and religious speech, and prohibits some products and services.

The change to focus on commercial and government advertising acknowledges and addresses recent court decisions regarding transit advertising.
