To support the Puget Sound region’s recovery, King County Metro is hiring back 200 part-time bus operators. These operators were laid off in August due to downturns in revenue and ridership.

As of today, 135 of the operators indicated their desire to return to driving for Metro. We’ll be sending out a second recall notice in May. We’re very excited to have them back behind the wheel and serving our community.

As more businesses, schools, and worksites reopen and others plan for the months ahead, Metro is reliably providing more than 85% of pre-pandemic service levels. Metro increased passenger limits on April 17, in line with Gov. Inslee’s guidance for public transit agencies. The King County Metro Water Taxi launched its summer schedule on April 19, which added midday and weekend sailings.

Metro is carefully monitoring and responding to evolving ridership trends. We’re committed to working with partners to continue to safely bring back more customers, to add service, and to improve connections across our region’s mobility network.

If needed, Metro will start a recruiting process in the coming months to hire and train new part-time operators for the region’s leading transit agency. Visit kingcounty.gov/careers to discover and apply for jobs at Metro and across King County.
