King County Metro safety team builds bikes for Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club

Folks at King County Metro love giving back to our community every day, but sometimes we go above and beyond our usual responsibilities, even building bikes for kids who need them.

Recently, Metro’s Safety, Security and Quality Assurance team spent an afternoon assembling 11 children’s bikes for the Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club in South Seattle.

Rebecca Frankhouser, Metro’s Chief Safety Officer and Managing Director, said her team longed to do a special project to directly benefit the community. (Note: these safety professionals left nothing to chance and had a bike mechanic inspect every bike before they were donated. We would expect nothing less from this team.)

The event worked on several levels, both as a team-building exercise and as a way to give back to the community. “It was exactly what our team needed, working together to create something meaningful for children and this great organization,” Frankhouser said. “It was such a great time for fellowship.”

The club will select recipients for the donated bikes, cards and helmets. (Typically, recipients are chosen based on factors that might include school attendance, grades and participation at the club.)

“We felt really good about giving back to our community in a different way,” Frankhouser said. “We hope it’s a wonderful surprise for the kids receiving the bikes.”
