Riding the bus this weekend? Make sure to check for reroutes around major construction and events, especially the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, Fremont Solstice Parade, SR 520 bridge and Viaduct construction closures. Check for changes to your route online.
Magnolia Festival: 2 routes affected
On Friday, June 20 at approximately 5:30 p.m. until about 9 p.m., Routes 19 & 31 will not serve the Magnolia Village area, due to the Magnolia Neighborhood Festival.
Viaduct closure: 3 routes affected
From Friday night, June 20 at 10 p.m. through Monday morning, June 23 at 5 a.m., the northbound Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed due to construction. Metro bus routes 120, 125 and the RapidRide C Line will be rerouted off of the northbound viaduct via surface streets.
Heading toward West Seattle, the affected routes will continue to serve the stop on Columbia St at 2nd Av and will not miss any stops.
Heading toward downtown Seattle, these routes will travel instead via 4th Av S, then to their regular routes. Route 120 and the RapidRide C Line will miss the stop eastbound on Seneca St between 2nd and 3rd avenues.
Fremont Solstice Parade: 5 routes affected
On Saturday, June 21 from approximately 2:15 p.m. until about 6 p.m., the Fremont area in Seattle will be affected by street closures and traffic congestion associated with the Fremont Solstice Parade.
During this event, Routes 26, 28, 31, 32 & 40 will be rerouted off of N 35th St and Fremont Av N and will travel instead via alternate nearby streets, depending on the route, destination and direction of travel.
Metro will operate a shuttle between downtown Seattle and the south end of the Fremont Bridge via Dexter Av every 15 minutes beginning at 12:12 p.m. until 6:57 p.m.
SR 520 bridge closure: 22 routes affected
Beginning Friday night, June 20, at 11 p.m. until Monday morning, June 23 at 5 a.m., the SR-520 Bridge will be closed for construction.
Metro bus routes 255, 271 and 280 Night Owl, and ST 545 will travel via I-90 instead, and will miss their usual stops along the SR-520 corridor west of I-405, and in Medina.
Please visit the WSDOT website or check media reports for information and updates about the bridge closure. Start and end times for the closure are subject to change without notice.
There is no Medina Shuttle during SR-520 closures. Regularly scheduled bus service will operate at the Bellevue Transit Center and at the South Kirkland P&R.
Rock n’ Roll Marathon: 36 bus routes rerouted, many affected
On Saturday, June 21, from 5 a.m. until the event clears and affected streets are re-opened, bus routes in east Queen Anne, South Lake Union, Downtown Seattle, Columbia City, Rainier Valley, Leschi, Seward Park, and along southeast Lake Washington will be rerouted or disrupted due to the Rock & Roll Marathon. Many streets and adjacent areas will also be affected by this event.
Many buses will be rerouted, and traffic and widespread transit schedule delays are expected. Delays in one area can cause delays at other points along a bus’s routing. With more than 40 bus routes affected, the impacts could be system-wide.
Rerouted buses during the marathon: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 21, 24, 26, 27, 28, 36, 40, 43, 47, 48, 49, 50, 66, 70, 82, 99, 120, 124, 125, 131, 132, Sound Transit routes 522, 545, 550 and 554.
In most cases, bus service is expected to return to normal as soon as event participants have cleared each section of the course, however, transit riders should check specific reroute or event information for possible minor exceptions.
Use regularly published Saturday transit schedules to plan your trip, but expect possible delays and allow plenty of time due to expected heavy traffic conditions.
Visit Metro’s Service Advisories page to find out if your bus will be rerouted and what stops it will serve during this event.
While most buses that operate on surface streets in the affected areas will be rerouted, riding transit is still the best way for spectators to get close to the event, as traffic will be congested and parking limited. Rerouted buses still go close to the marathon course.
