While most Seahawks fans are likely to get a better view watching media coverage of Sunday’s send-off, Metro Transit encourages 12s who want to see their team off to the SuperBowl in person to use transit facilities and services to get to and from the departure site, as there is limited access and parking at or near the send-off area. Riders should plan for delays and reroutes for several bus routes in the area.
In an effort to support the send-off event, Metro is operating limited free fan shuttle service from the Star Lake Park and Ride lot on South 272nd Street just west of I-5, to and from the send-off area at International Boulevard South and South 192nd Street.
The Star Lake P&R has capacity for 540 vehicles. The free shuttles will operate from the park and ride on Sunday, January 25, about every 10 minutes between 7:30-11:30 AM. They will depart from the Star Lake Freeway Station on the southbound roadway/freeway ramp on the east side of the park and ride, then operate non-stop to the Seahawks departure area, where fans can both exit and re-board at a temporary stop southbound on International Boulevard South just south of South 192nd Street. The shuttles will depart from International Boulevard South and South 192nd Street about every 10 minutes and operate non-stop back to Star Lake from 7:45-11:45 AM.
Reroutes also are in store. Seahawks fans and regular riders of Metro routes 156, 180 and the RapidRide A Line, and Sound Transit routes 560 and 574 should also note that, due to the closure of International Boulevard South between South 176th Street and South 188th Street during Sunday’s event, these buses will be rerouted via Military Road South and South 176th Street, distances that may be walkable for some fans, but not others. Transit riders should be prepared and plan accordingly.
Sound Transit’s Central Link light rail serves the Tukwila International Boulevard Station and has both parking and connections to other routes, and Sea Tac Airport, which may be within walking distance for some fans. All regularly scheduled transit service requires valid payment of a full fare.
Additionally, Metro advises customers who normally ride regularly scheduled transit service that travels to or near Sea Tac Airport, to expect possible delays on Sunday due to transit reroutes and congestion associated with the Seahawks send-off event. Please plan accordingly and allow plenty of extra time for your trip.
