Travel between West Seattle and downtown Seattle?
For 26,000 daily bus riders on 12 routes, the Seattle Squeeze is about to get a little easier. The reopening of Columbia Street from Alaskan Way to Third Avenue is planned for Feb. 22, when King County Metro shifts bus service to a long-planned, smoother and more reliable transit pathway. Bus lanes and key traffic changes were designed and supported by the City of Seattle.
It’s been a long time in the making, with plans dating back to when buses still traveled on the Alaskan Way Viaduct to reach downtown Seattle (dropping riders off at Seneca Street). Now riders will have long-term stops near Alaskan Way and Columbia Street, near the waterfront, the Water Taxi and state ferries – and able to help riders travel up the hill more easily to reach Link light rail.

It is pretty inconvenient that there is no stop near King/Main/etc for the International District anymore. Is there any plan to add a stop on Western in the future so that we don’t have to walk all the way back from the ferry terminal? It’s doubled the distance I have to walk since the change.
it doesn’t matter what we really say as someone at metro that never rides the bus makes all the choices for the bus riders anyways. as they really don’t care if you can get to work, the doctor, the drug store and shopping for food if you are disabled or older metro says it is only a couple of blocks.
Should restore Route 62 service along the Waterfront to connect International District with Coleman Dock.
A bit inconvenient for those of us who were commuting by bus to the vicinity of the CenturyLink Field… Though I do appreciate the effort to develop smoother transit routes
