i work at Harborview Medical Center my shift starts at 6:30am and i live in the Renton highlands cutting the 111 route is a hassle, to go down to the Renton transit center. i do not own a car. makes things very stressful.
I too work at hospital on First Hill (Seattle) in the evening. Used to take the Streetcar from First Hill to Capitol Hill to catch either a #10 or #8 headed east on John St but the Streetcar now stops running @ 8:30pm so have to walk to Brdwy & Pine Street to try & catch a #49 with hope of connecting to a #8 or #10. Been trying to get off work early to hopefully make those connections but the buses come early (I use the txt msg Stop ID) but @ that time of night my essential worker status means more often than not I’ll be walking home. The last bus SHOULD be made to wait at a particular stop such as the Brdwy Light Rail station bus stop so people connecting from the light rail or like me walking (the Uber bikes are not an option) can catch the bus @ the SCHEDULED ARRIVAL TIME. The #8, #10 are running early from the estimated txt stop time & since neither run after 12m people like me are left with no choice but to walk home making for an even longer commute!!
Yeaa….. I am on the eastside and have to travel to Seattle every day for my job. These cuts you are making to routes for essential persons is only making it worse and more dangerous. This will cause overcrowding on the buses and the homeless and transients that are riding the buses have no idea about social distancing. Please return all the routes as they were. I need the 257 or 252 back.
there are only 2 or 3 people on the bus daily now…its hard to imagine over crowding for the near future…
I am 70 and have underlying medical conditions. I don’t have a driver’s license nor a car. The bus is the only timely way to get to see my doctor. Hopelink is not on time.
Do you have a specific appointment you are trying to make? If you need further assistance, please try customer service on Monday and they may be able to outline other travel options, perhaps Access paratransit or other connections?
Social distancing is not being practiced on the buses. The transients, drunks and drug addicts and mentally disturbed are still roaming freely as usual and congregating on the buses, especially in the evenings and at night. This is going to be the next “epicenter” for this virus. These folks roam on and off buses all day and night so their reach is very far – one such person may ride all over King County in a given 24 hour period. There are also groups of teens still riding. If someone were to check, you’d find none of these aforemoentioned trips are “essential” in any way. Many buses are full of nothing but the aforementioned all evening and night while apparently trips that people with essential tasks to do are getting theirs cut.
and are any of the rt’s you are going to be cutting be any going to the hospitals??? as many of us that work at the hospitals don’t drive and need the bus to get us to and from our jobs!!!!! so that we might be able to take care of your staff and your staff’s families too. just saying it is important that we are able to get to and from so we can take care of those in need too. I do understand there is fear out there yet there is also need to be able to get to and from as well.
