Metromance: A bus, a Warrior Nun and two sweethearts meant to meet!
Melissa hopped on a King County Metro Route 36 bus one day in February of last year and grabbed the last available empty seat. It was right behind this cute woman watching a cult-favorite show on her phone, “Warrior Nun.”
Melissa couldn’t believe it: she adored that show, too!
“I struck up a conversation, about how much I loved Warrior Nun,” she said.
That woman, Kelly, was a teeny bit startled. “My eyes were locked on my phone…I didn’t say anything at first because I was kind of a deer caught in the headlights. I turned in slow motion to see who was talking in the bus seat behind me. I was highly embarrassed to be caught watching this campy niche sci-fi show, and have a stranger talking to me about it–I’m from Seattle!”
“I think it was mostly Melissa leading the conversation there for a bit.”
Melissa did in fact manage to lead the conversation for a bit, but it finally stalled out. Then she noticed the lock screen on Kelly’s phone featured a picture of a dog. She had a dog, too!
Melissa plunged on, and once again, their conversation was sparked. Pretty soon, they found out they shared the same bus stop on North Beacon Hill. After that, they discovered they lived across an alley from one another.
Melissa remembers an awkward moment as the two left the bus. She screwed up her courage: “I was like, ‘Can I get your number to go dog walking sometime?’ “
Kelly didn’t hesitate. “I said, ‘Yes. I would love a dog-walking buddy.’ I was absolutely looking for an excuse to get her phone number.”
The two had their first date a few days later, at Oak, a neighborhood restaurant on Beacon Hill. As they say, the rest is history and they’ve been a couple ever since.
“On our first Valentine’s Day, I did send her a Warrior Nun text meme,” Kelly said.
“It was very adorable and funny,” added Melissa.
As for their one-year anniversary? “We’re thinking of…taking the (Route) 36 bus,” Kelly said.

I love this!!!
A meet-cute I aspire to!
