(Update: Great news! King County Metro Transit Police, working in coordination with Brazil’s owner (Kimberlie), were able to successfully locate and return Brazil to her rightful home Wednesday, March 27. We’re grateful for our Metro Transit Police colleagues’ commitment to community policing.)

On Thursday, March 14 after midnight, a dog named Brazil was separated from its guardian. The dog was last seen exiting a northbound RapidRide A Line near the intersection of International Boulevard and South 170th Street.

If anyone has information or sees Brazil, please contact Kimberlie on her “Brazil is Lost” Facebook page or reach out to Regional Animal Services of King County.

King County Metro staff have been doing everything we can to safely reunite Brazil and her owner, Kimberlie. Our bus operators and field supervisors continue to be on the lookout for the dog along the RapidRide A Line and in surrounding communities.

At Kimberlie’s request, Metro shared with her the closed-circuit video of Brazil’s journey. Please note there have been a number of inaccurate reports in the news and on social media about how Brazil came to be separated from her guardian. As shown in the footage, Kimberlie’s boyfriend brought Brazil aboard the RapidRide A Line via a middle door and the dog was not leashed. When the man later stood up and exited at the rear of the bus, the animal did not follow him from the seating area to the door. The man realized only after the doors closed that the dog was still onboard. The Metro bus driver operated the bus safely, closed the door properly and drove away from the bus stop appropriately.

We shared these details with Kimberlie on Monday and Tuesday in a series of phone calls, and released the video to her earlier today. Kimberlie asked that the video not be posted to the Metro Matters blog or on Metro’s social media channels.

Metro fully shares Kimberlie’s goal of safely reuniting with Brazil and continues to support search efforts in coordination with local authorities and volunteers. We greatly appreciate the ongoing assistance of community members, Metro employees and riders to find Brazil.
