Following focused effort to improve community safety in Little Saigon by Seattle and King County law enforcement and social service agencies, King County Metro soon will reopen four bus stops near 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street.

Routes 1, 7, 9, 14, 36, 60 and 106 will begin serving the four stops on Monday, March 3. Customer notifications will be posted at both the affected and nearby bus stops. We appreciate the patience of riders during the temporary shift of service to nearby bus stops.

photo of street sign of South Jackson Street and 12th Avenue SouthBus stop safety conditions were monitored by a team of Metro operations, safety, facilities and police staff for several weeks. Law enforcement conducted several targeted investigations and made necessary arrests for unlawful conduct to improve the conditions for transit operators, transit facilities employees and riders waiting for bus service.

We are returning bus service to these four bus stops thanks to an ongoing effort to improve community safety in an area where riders depend on Metro for service. Our goal is for bus riders to be able to board and exit freely, and for transit operators to serve these bus stops without people unsafely blocking either the street or sidewalks.

We appreciate the around-the-clock support of law enforcement. We will continue to monitor this area and coordinate with police and social service providers to maintain reliable operations that support the safety of our transit employees and riders.

If security conditions at this location or elsewhere in Metro’s service area are concerning to customers, community members or transit operators, we encourage people to report their concerns either to law enforcement or King County Metro. Metro will continue to use data and input from operators and customers to guide decisions and efforts to improve and address security.

Metro’s service advisories table shows alternate stop locations that remain in effect through March 2.

  1. During the temporarily shift?? Please proofread.

  2. Will the eastbound stop on South Jackson Street be shifted back to farside 12th Avenue South from nearside 12th Avenue South? The earlier shift to nearside was a failed attempt to address the societal issues. The nearside stop slows Route 36 by forcing those trips to wait while trips on routes 7, 14, and 106 serve it before going east. Transit got in its own way. Further, the farside stop allows the Route 9 trips to serve the intersection. (Route 1 shows up on your list as the through route partner for Route 14). If Seattle and King County has sufficient control of the intersection, open the four farside stops.
