Celebrating Excellence: Shannon Nale named Vehicle Maintenance Employee of the Year

With great pride, King County Metro announced Thursday the Vehicle Maintenance Employee of the Year: Shannon Nale, an outstanding Transit Information Processing Specialist.

Shannon, a payroll specialist who works out of Metro’s South Base, was recognized for her excellence by leaders and colleagues in a ceremony at the base, receiving a day off, a dedicated parking spot for the coming year, and plenty of accolades for her honor.

Leaders and team members praised Shannon’s work, saying it’s vital to keeping Metro’s services safe, efficient and accountable. All her work orders are accurate, they said, every record meets the highest standards, and the critical data she collects is trustworthy and complete.

“Whether it’s helping someone get the answers they need, jumping in when another base is short-staffed, or just being a reliable voice on the other end of the line, Shannon shows up for people, and that matters,” said Metro General Manager Michelle Allison. “But what makes her exceptional is her willingness to go above and beyond — not just in her duties, but in her support of others.”

Calmness and consistency

It’s not only the exceptional quality of her work, but how she does it, colleagues said: With grace under pressure, patience for her colleagues, and an unshakable commitment to detail, Shannon brings calm and consistency to an environment that never stands still.

Chris Parrott, Metro Vehicle Maintenance Director, told the group that if you’d ever worked with Shannon, you know she consistently brings the same energy and enthusiasm to her job that she brings to supporting her favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks.

“Today we have the privilege of recognizing someone whose work consistently sets the standard for excellence — someone whose dedication, attention to detail and professionalism keep our operation running smoothly behind the scenes,” Parrott said. “She handles challenges with professionalism and grace. She supports her colleagues with patience and kindness, always willing to help when questions arise or when someone needs a second pair of eyes on a complex issue.”

Showing up for her team

Whether she’s aiding coworkers at another base, helping someone troubleshoot a tricky issue, or making sure every timecard is accurate, so everyone gets paid on time, Shannon shows up for her team every single day, Parrott said.

One of her most critical responsibilities — ensuring timely and correct pay — might sound simple, but anyone in this room knows how complex it really is, he said. Timecards, approvals, shift changes — the margin for error is small, but Shannon handles it all with care, attention, and follow-through.

The impact of her work is felt across every route, every shift, and every vehicle sent out, according to her team. Shannon is an essential part of the foundation that keeps our agency running. Her professionalism, her kindness, and her relentless pursuit of excellence was called inspiring to all.

Shannon, on behalf of the entire Metro team: thank you for your dedication, your reliability and your heart!
