Metro’s Matthew Green receives National ‘40 Under 40’ recognition for emergency management excellence
Congratulations to King County Metro’s Emergency Management Administrator Matthew Green who was recently honored with the Top 40 Under 40 award by the International Association for Emergency Management (IAEM-USA).
The IAEM-USA Top 40 under 40 is a recognition given to individuals under age 40 for their outstanding leadership and notable contributions to the emergency management profession. This honor is a symbol of excellence and a testament to the achievements and hard work of the next generation of emergency management professionals.
At Metro, emergency management is an essential function to keeping the community safe. As Emergency Management Administrator, Green focuses on emergency and continuity planning and founded and chairs the department-wide Emergency Management Steering Committee, the place where leaders across Metro collaborate on emergency management and continuity solutions.
Green has been at Metro since September 2024, after spending many years as an emergency management consultant working across the country.
“In my time working on multiple emergencies and disasters,” Green said, “I truly believe that taking care of the most vulnerable members of our community isn’t just part of an emergency manager’s job, it’s the whole job. And just like the curb-cut effect, it leads to innovative and equitable services that everyone benefits from.
He added: “I believe that access is a human right. The work that we do here is essential to ensuring access across the county. My job is to help make sure that we can continue providing equitable access even (and especially) through adverse conditions for those who rely on us the most.”
Congratulations to Matt for this amazing achievement and thank you to everyone on Metro’s Emergency Management team for their critical work keeping our communities safe.
