Celebrating Excellence: Peter Ngo named King County Metro’s Vehicle Maintenance Employee of the Year
If there’s one thing you can count on in Metro’s Vehicle Maintenance division, it’s that Transit Mechanic Peter Ngo will show up ready to skillfully tackle whatever challenge the day brings. Today, he was recognized for his consistent excellence as the King County Metro Vehicle Maintenance Employee of the Year.
“Peter sets a standard for reliability and professionalism that inspires everyone around him,” said King County Executive Girmay Zahilay. “His dedication strengthens our operations daily and reflects the best of what Metro stands for.”
Since starting at King County in 2009, Ngo has built a reputation as the kind of teammate every shop hopes to have: Reliable, upbeat and always up for a new challenge. From keeping coaches rolling to championing better health at the 2024 Wellness Fair, Ngo brings a spark of enthusiasm that lifts his whole team.
His work ethic, steady focus and willingness to take on new challenges have made him a consistent example of excellence at Metro. Reliability is essential in Vehicle Maintenance, and Ngo is known for his dependability, say those who know him. Teammates say he brings a positive attitude to every shift and has earned a reputation for being respectful, collaborative and calm under pressure. When extra help is needed on the job, Ngo is often one of the first to volunteer, demonstrating a level of initiative that makes the entire operation better.
Metro General Manager Michelle Allison says his impact goes far beyond his job description.
“What makes Peter exceptional isn’t just his skill, it’s his character,” Allison said. “He brings positivity, readiness and calm leadership to every situation, and our organization is stronger because of him.”
Beyond his daily responsibilities, Ngo has unstintingly taken on expanded roles, including operating a wrecker for coach recovery. His technical skill and thoughtful approach help keep operations efficient and ensure that Metro’s coaches stay on the road delivering the safe and consistent service that connects the community.
“Peter is reliable,” said Chris Parrott, the Vehicle Maintenance Division Director. “He’s dependable. He brings a positive attitude to work, and he’s someone who is genuinely respected by his peers and colleagues. He doesn’t shy away from challenges—in fact, he’s usually looking for the next one and asking how he can help.
“Those qualities matter tremendously in VM…Every coach we safely return to service represents somebody’s ride to work. Somebody’s trip to school. Somebody getting to a medical appointment. Somebody getting home to their family.”
Outside of work Ngo loves to rock climb, enjoys collecting Pokémon cards and playing Magic: The Gathering. Ngo is married and has one daughter, and his commitment to both his family and his work shines through in all he does.
Metro is proud to recognize Ngo for his exceptional contributions and leadership in Vehicle Maintenance. His work continues to make a daily difference for his team members, our riders and the community. Well done, Peter!
