King County Metro bus operator Lisa Nault has been awarded the department’s highest honor, Operator of the Year. Nault received the recognition today at a ceremony celebrating her award at Metro’s East Base. She is one of Metro’s 2,500 transit operators and was selected by 84 fellow Operators of the Month as the “best of the best.”

“Lisa’s commitment to safety and reliable service day in and day out is unparalleled, and I am thrilled to recognize her as Metro’s Operator of the Year,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine. “Her excellence is a wonderful example of the public service provided by King County, placing our residents at the forefront of all that we do, and delivering a world-class mobility network.”

Praise from a passenger about Nault: “The driver was extremely professional and showed exceptional care while driving, making extra effort to avoid sudden changes in speed or direction.”

Nault started with Metro as a part-time operator in 1992 and has been full-time since 1997. She has earned several Safe Driver Awards and many customer commendations. Lisa has also been active in ATU Local 587 for 30 years.

“Our operators are the finest in the nation and no one embodies this more than Lisa Nault,” said Metro General Manager Michelle Allison. “Her excellence shines through all that she does. I am so proud she chose Metro for her career.”

“Her kindness, leadership and commitment to her peers and the Metro community make her deserving of this honor,” said Kerrie Bouie, East Base Operations Chief. “We are all proud of this accomplishment she has achieved.”

Nault’s advice to other operators: “Drive one block at a time.”

Nault has a daughter, a granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, cooking, baking, attending pow-wows and spending time with her family. She was named Operator of the Month for East Base in November, making her eligible for this award as 2022 Operator of the Year.
